Is Porofessor safe, and can you get banned for using it?

We found no documented ban for using Porofessor as shipped, and Porofessor says Riot approves of it. Riot itself names no app and publishes no list of safe ones; it forbids behaviour, and Porofessor dropped the one feature Riot banned, enemy ult timers, in March 2025. The open question since October 6, 2026 is game memory, on which Porofessor has said nothing public that we found. Windows only, in both builds.

Updated October 30, 2026Riot's words, quotedNo ban predictions

Updated . Written by the maker of LazyElo, so read it as one side's view; every fact about another app or about Riot links to its source, and where our sources are silent the page says so. LazyElo competes with Porofessor, so the sources are there to check us. The umbrella page on the safety of League apps covers Blitz, Mobalytics, OP.GG and U.GG the same way.

What Riot actually bans

Riot's support page on third-party applications (February 10, 2025) doesn't list apps. It lists what counts as an unfair advantage:

  • “Exposing information that's intentionally obfuscated”
  • “Taking actions on your behalf (botting or scripting)”
  • “Drawing conclusions for you during gameplay”
  • “Altering your field of intelligence (zoomhacks or global ult alerts)”

Suspensions for malicious apps “can vary in length depending on the severity”, and on the other side: “If a third party application is approved and built using the official Riot API, players should rarely have an issue.” Then the sentence every “is X approved” claim runs into: “we can't provide a full list of which ones are safe to use”. Riot's developer docs add that apps may not use information “not present in the game client” that gives an edge, with ult cooldown tracking as the example, and that the League client's local interface “is not officially supported for use with third party applications”.

WhenWhat happenedWhat it means
August 2022Porofessor's X account posts that it is approved by Riot and that using it will not get you banned. The maker's claim. Riot publishes no list and has not confirmed it on its own pages.[1, 2]

March 13, 2025Riot bans enemy ultimate timers in all apps; apps had to remove the feature or lose their API keys.Porofessor removed them, like the others. Riot's developer docs confirm the rule without a date.[3, 4, 5]
December 5, 2025M.O.B.A. Network launches a standalone Porofessor on Electron; the Overwolf build stays, and Overwolf stays the ad partner. Two builds since then, both with ads in the free version.[6]

The approval claim is Porofessor's, on its X account and as “Riot Games Compliant” on its download page. Google's AI answer repeats it as fact; Riot's own pages don't, for any app, so this page attributes it and leaves it there.

Porofessor and Vanguard

Riot's Vanguard FAQ for developers (April 1, 2024) draws the line by method, not by name: “Overlays and internal tools using the API, game client, and in-game APIs should continue to function.” “External tools reading memory will no longer work”. And: “There is absolutely no allow list for Vanguard.” Porofessor's pages say the app works with Vanguard; which routes it uses to read a game isn't stated in the sources we checked, and the search “porofessor vanguard” lands on porofessor.gg's own pages, which is where its current status lives.

After October 6, 2026

“Starting October 6, 2026, Riot will begin proactively preventing game memory access by default for all unknown third-party applications”

Riot's notice of September 29, 2026 continues: “For known and currently approved tools, we will have an extended grace period until April 2027, after which time, they will need to have switched to the official APIs”, and “This change does not result in bans by itself”. Riot names no tool as known or unknown, so nobody outside Riot and M.O.B.A. Network can say which side of that line Porofessor is on, or whether it reads game memory at all. What to watch: Porofessor's own update notes, and whether a feature disappears or stops working around a patch. Statement found from Porofessor on the notice, as of October 30, 2026: none. The Riot's third-party app notice page keeps the timeline and a tracker per app.

What players report

Reddit threads and search trends, labelled as what they are: reports, not measurements.
  • FPS and lag on low-end PCs

Google's AI answer for “is porofessor safe” says it can lower frame rates or add lag on lower-end computers, citing a Reddit thread; another thread has a player whose “screen keeps freezing during loading screen”. The only published memory figure, about 1,000 MB in a game with Overwolf, is iTero's, a rival app.

Sources: r/leagueoflegends: “Is Porofessor safe?”; r/leagueoflegends: “Is Porofessor OP?”; iTero (a rival app), Mar 31, 2026

  • The labels

Some players call the tags Porofessor puts on teammates toxic, in the same Reddit threads. A matter of taste, and worth knowing before you install.

    Source: r/leagueoflegends: “Is Porofessor safe?”

  • “Porofessor not working”

About 50 US searches a month, with a peak of 110, which is what an outage or a patch looks like in search data. Those searches land on porofessor.gg's own status pages; this page can't tell you whether today's outage is Riot's change or something else.

If you want a lighter app without ads or Overwolf

LazyElo is our app, so weigh this as the maker's account. It is not on any Riot list either, because Riot publishes none.
  • It never reads game memory

It reads the League client's local interface, the game's own live data on your PC and Riot's web API through our server. The October 2026 block changes nothing in how it works.
  • No ads, no Overwolf, no browser engine

A native Windows app. We measured 428 MB of RAM idle in the lobby and 511 MB during a game with the overlay on at 0.0% CPU. An FPS test with and without LazyElo is still in progress, so we make no FPS claim yet.
  • It never clicks for you

No rune import, no auto-accept, no picks or locks, no timers or alerts. It looks players up only once the loading screen is up, never in champ select.
  • What it does instead of Porofessor

A score per player with the reasons, premades, the enemy jungler's usual start and a win chance per team in the loading screen; the scoreboard per lane in game; a review of every death after. Plus is €4.99 a month or €39 a year, with 7 days free. The full comparison: instead of Porofessor.

If Overwolf is the part you are unsure about, the Overwolf safety page takes that apart on its own; what a companion app is for at all is the LoL companion app guide.

Light on your PC

What LazyElo asks of your PC: first what follows from how it is built, then what we measured. We only put a number here once we have measured it.

By design

  • Native, without Overwolf

A Windows app of its own. No Overwolf and no browser engine running next to your game.

  • No ads

Nothing in the app loads ads or ad videos, in the lobby or during a game.

  • A small overlay

The overlay is a separate see-through window. It only draws scoreboard info and redraws twice a second.

  • Nothing inside the game

LazyElo reads the client and the game's own live data through the local connections Riot provides. It never runs inside the game process and never reads game memory.

Measured

In the lobby, idle

Questions and answers

Is Porofessor legal in LoL?

Nothing in Riot's rules names Porofessor, for or against, and Riot says it can't provide a full list of safe apps. What Riot forbids is behaviour: scripting, drawing conclusions for you during gameplay, exposing hidden information, altering your field of intelligence. Porofessor's features in our sources are lobby scouting, rune import, timers for jungle, objectives and inhibitors, and post-game charts; it removed enemy ult timers when Riot banned those in March 2025. We found no documented ban for using Porofessor as shipped.

Sources: Riot Support: Third-Party Applications (Feb 10, 2025); Porofessor on the Overwolf store; porofessor.gg/download; bo3.gg, March 2025

Is Porofessor bannable?

Riot's pages don't say you will be banned for a companion app; they say apps built on the official API “should rarely have an issue” and that suspensions for malicious apps vary with severity. Porofessor says it is approved by Riot and that using it will not get you banned; that is the maker's word. The open question since October 6, 2026 is game memory: Riot blocks it for unknown apps and says the change does not by itself result in bans. Porofessor has published no statement on it that we found.

Sources: Riot Support: Third-Party Applications (Feb 10, 2025); @PorofessorGG on X, Aug 2022; Riot Support: Game Memory Access Removed for Third Party Apps (Sep 29, 2026)

Can I use Porofessor without Overwolf?

Yes. Since December 5, 2025 Porofessor also comes as a standalone app built on Electron, next to the Overwolf version. It still shows ads in the free version, because Overwolf stays the maker's ad partner; Premium removes them.

Does Porofessor work with Vanguard?

Riot's Vanguard FAQ for developers says overlays and tools that use the API, the game client and in-game APIs should continue to function, that external tools reading memory will no longer work, and that there is no allow list. Porofessor's own pages say it works; which of those routes it uses isn't stated in the sources we checked. The searches for “porofessor vanguard” land on porofessor.gg itself, which is the place for its current status.

Who is 'the Porofessor'?

Not a person. It is the name of the app and of its poro mascot; the app is made by M.O.B.A. Network, the listed company behind porofessor.gg.
