ARAM Mayhem Guide

ARAM Mayhem is ARAM with augments: the same single lane and random champions, plus cards that can turn a support into a carry or a carry into a raid boss. This guide explains how the mode and the cards work, how to pick them, and links to the tier list, builds for all 173 champions and every augment on patch 26.21.

What is ARAM Mayhem?

ARAM, All Random All Mid, puts ten players on the Howling Abyss: one lane, no jungle, shopping only when you're dead or in your fountain, and a champion you didn't choose. Mayhem keeps all of that and adds augments. Over a game you get four picks, and each pick offers a few cards that change your champion: more damage, a new effect on your abilities, a stat engine that grows every fight.

That makes champion strength in Mayhem different from regular ARAM. Champions whose kits multiply what a card gives, such as fast attackers with on-hit cards or spammy mages with ability haste, climb the list. Champions that depend on one big ultimate gain less. The tier list shows the result: 15 champions in S tier on patch 26.21.

How augments work

Augments come in three rarities. On patch 26.21 there are 70 silver, 94 gold and 71 prismatic cards. Silver cards are small, steady upgrades; gold cards change a stat or an ability noticeably; prismatic cards are build-defining. Every one of your four picks can show any rarity.

Rarity is not the same as strength. 20 of the 71 prismatic cards are C or D tier over all champions, while 29 silver cards make S or A tier. What counts is the card on your champion: a card that is S tier on one champion can be D tier on another. That is why every champion build page ranks the cards for that champion alone.

Some cards are much better together than apart. The champion pages list the strongest pairs, so you can plan your second pick around your first.

How to pick your cards

  • Feed what your champion already does

An attack-speed card on a marksman, ability haste on a spell spammer, healing and shielding power on an enchanter. A card that adds a stat your champion doesn't use is a wasted pick, however rare it is.
  • Check the tier on your champion, not the rarity

A gold card in your champion's S tier usually beats a prismatic card in its C tier. The build page of your champion lists every card by tier, best first.
  • Early picks win fights now, later picks scale

Your first pick shapes the early skirmishes, when one won fight snowballs in a single lane. Later picks can be greedier: stacking cards and scaling engines pay off in long games.
  • Plan pairs

If your first card is half of a strong pair for your champion, the other half jumps up your list when it shows. Each champion page lists its strongest pairs.
  • Cover what your team lacks

Five carries and no frontline? A tanky card on a bruiser can matter more than one more damage card. Look at both teams before you pick, just as you would with items.

How to pick your champion

As in ARAM, you start with a random champion and can trade with the bench. Three things decide whether to swap: the champion's Mayhem tier, how well you play it, and what your team is missing.

Tier is the easy part, and the tier list has it. The other two are personal: a champion you have played a hundred times is often worth more than an S-tier champion you have never touched, and a team without engage needs one.

The LazyElo app puts all three side by side in the Mayhem lobby: the tier of every champion you can take, your own Mayhem record on it and how it fits your team.

The Mayhem helper in LazyElo

LazyElo is a free Windows app next to your League client. Questions and answers

What is ARAM Mayhem?

ARAM Mayhem is a League of Legends mode on the Howling Abyss: ARAM's single lane and random champions, plus augments, cards that change how your champion works. You pick four of them over a game, so no two games play out the same.

Is ARAM Mayhem here to stay?

Riot has never called it permanent, but it has had no end date since early 2026, gets a new Set about every four months, and Riot said in May 2026 it is planning Mayhem updates for 2027. The full timeline is on the page about whether ARAM Mayhem is permanent.

How many augments are there in ARAM Mayhem?

On patch 26.21 there are 235 augments: 70 silver, 94 gold and 71 prismatic. Every pick can offer any rarity. The ARAM Mayhem augment tier list ranks all of them from S to D, over all champions and for each pick.

Who are the best champions in ARAM Mayhem right now?

On patch 26.21 the top five are Yasuo, Twisted Fate, Gwen, Fiora and Xin Zhao. 15 champions are in S tier; the full list is on the ARAM Mayhem tier list.

Why are there no augment win rates on this site?

Riot's developer policy doesn't allow apps and sites to show win rates for augments. LazyElo shows cards by tier and in order instead, which tells you which card to take without the percentages.

Where do the ARAM Mayhem numbers come from?

Riot keeps Mayhem games out of its public match API, so the champion and card numbers come from ARAMKit, which tracks millions of Mayhem games per patch. LazyElo uses them with ARAMKit's permission.
