LoL matchups: who wins lane, from real games

Both sides of every measured lane matchup in League of Legends: in which lane one champion is among the other's worst matchups, each champion's own tier, win rate and games there, and what each one builds. Counted from 5,462 ranked games on patch 26.21 in the lobbies of LazyElo players, at their own elo, with the games behind every number. The per-champion view is on LoL counters per champion.

A pair is measured when one champion wins less than 50% against the other over at least 8 games, after the win rate is pulled toward 50%. The data lists those pairs with the games behind them; it does not hold a win rate per pair, so no page here invents one. Both orders of a pair (Garen vs Darius, Darius vs Garen) lead to the same page.

How to read a matchup

Three things make a matchup number mean something. The champion's own average: a 51% matchup is bad for a champion that wins 55% of its lane games and fine for one that wins 48%. The sample: 8 games is the floor here, and every page says how many games sit behind each number. And the rank: the same pair can be lopsided in Diamond and even in Silver, so it matters whose games you read. These are the games of LazyElo players and the players they met, at their own elo.

Most lanes fall into one of four shapes: poke (one side chips from range), catch (one side wins when it lands a hook or a root), trade (short, even exchanges that reward the better trader) and all-in (the lane is decided by one fight at a power spike). Which shape a pair takes follows from the six things that decide a counter, range and sustain first; the guide covers them under what decides a counter.

Your own matchups

  • Three short fields per opponent

My lane plan, what I watch for, and what worked. The app asks for your plan in champ select before it shows your notes.
  • Your record in that matchup

Games, wins and losses, when you last played it, your average KDA in it, and your CS and gold difference at 10 minutes from the games with a timeline.
  • How others did

How other players in your stored games did in the same matchup, with the number of games, so you can see when it is only a rough guide.
  • An AI tip, if you ask

Three short tips from general League knowledge, without numbers; the numbers come from your own games.

Matchups is part of Plus; the free plan shows the best 3 picks from your pool. More on the feature page: matchup notes per opponent.

How these numbers are counted

  • Ranked Solo/Duo and Flex games on patch 26.21, from the lobbies of LazyElo players and the players they met there. 5,462 games on this page.
  • A pair is measured when one champion wins less than 50% against the other over at least 8 games in the same lane, after its win rate is pulled toward 50% (as if the matchup had 10 more games at 50%). Up to three such opponents are kept per champion and lane; the pair pages are those lists, both ways.
  • The data holds each champion's tier, win rate and games per lane and the lists of its worst matchups. It does not hold the win rate of each pair, so the pages show each champion's own lane numbers and say which side the matchup falls on, never a head-to-head percentage.
  • Only totals per champion and matchup: no player names or accounts.

Questions and answers

Where can I see LoL matchups by rank?

Here, at the rank of the players whose games these are. The 5,462 ranked games behind this page come from the lobbies of LazyElo players and the players they met, so the matchups reflect their elo rather than Emerald and above. The lane tier lists add a rank filter once a rank group has enough games; the matchups themselves are counted over all ranks together, because a single rank group has too few games per pair.

What is a good win rate in a matchup?

Compare it with the champion's own average in that lane, not with 50%. A champion that wins 55% of its lane games and 51% against one opponent is doing four points worse than usual there; that is a bad matchup even though it is above 50%. The pages here show each champion's own lane win rate next to the matchup for that reason.

Is a 52% matchup a counter?

Not on its own. On this site a counter is an opponent against which a champion wins less than 50% over at least 8 games, after the win rate is pulled toward 50% (as if the matchup had 10 more games at 50%). A 52% matchup is on the champion's side, and whether it is a counter the other way depends on how far it sits below that champion's own average.

Does Garen counter Darius?

Not in our data on patch 26.21: neither Garen nor Darius is among the other's worst three top lane matchups with at least 8 games, over 572 Garen games and 567 Darius games in the top lane. The pair page shows both champions' top lane numbers and their measured matchups: Darius vs Garen.

Your own plan for every matchup, asked before you lock in

In champ select LazyElo weighs these matchups against your own record on each champion in your pool and puts the best pick first with the reasons. Once it can tell who your lane opponent is, it asks for your plan, then shows your notes and your record in that matchup. You still pick and lock yourself.
